Congratulations to Katie Salter

Katie Salter was awarded the Presidential Award of Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.  These awards are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science.  The President of the United States bestows only up to 108 awards each year.  Congratulations Katie!

Congratulations to Tiffany Mayo

Tiffany Mayo is the 2014 Carteret County Schools and WCHS Certified Employee of the Year. She is a vital part of our school.  She mentors students, works with teachers and assists the community with any resources or tasks needed as well as our Senior Projects Program.  Congratulations Tiffany!

Sheila Pedersen is the 2014 West Carteret High School Classified Employee of the Year. She is a caring and invaluable to our students and staff as well as parents in our front office.  Congratulations Sheila!

Robert Lancaster is the 2011 Carteret County Schools and WCHS Certified Employee of the Year.  He is caring and invaluable resource to students.  He works in our Counseling Center and is loved by all.  Congratulations Robert!

Michael McGinn is the 2010 WCHS Teacher of the Year.  He is enthusiastic educator loved by all - in charge of the WCHS News Show as well as teaches Latin and Journalism.  Congratulations Michael!!!!!

Congratulations to Shelton Mayo

Shelton Mayo was recognized by the North Carolina Athletic Association as the 2009-2010 Boys and Girls Coach of the Year for Cross Country.  This is his 12th time accepting this honor.  Congratulations Shelton!!!!!!

Glenn Howell was named the President of the North Carolina Agricultural Teachers' Association for the 2009-10 school year!!!!!  Congratulations Glen!!!!!

Scot Whitfield is the Regional Advisor for Skills USA Region 2 of North Carolina.  He was named 2008-09 Advisor of the Year!!!!  Congratulations Scot!!!!!

Congratulations to Ruth Varner

Ruth Varner was recognized at an awards banquet, Oct. 23, 2008, by the Carteret County Mayors' Committee for Persons with Disabilities as the distinguished educator of individuals with disabilities for 2008.  She was recognized at the banquet held on October 23, 2008 at the All Saints Angelical Church in Morehead City. Ruth was honored for her work with persons with disabilities in our school.  Congratulations Ruth!!!!!!

Congratulations to Deborah Coulter

Deborah Coulter has been selected to receive the 2008 Goodheart-Wilcox Secondary Teacher Award, awarded through the Housing, Education and Research Association.

The judges chose her activity because it was very innovative and involved many aspects of housing. Her students developed a hands-on project where they designed units for senior housing and became more aware of Universal Design principles.

The Housing Education and Research Association is flying her to Indianapolis to receive her award on October 7th, 2008.  Congratulations Deborah!!!!!!

Congratulations to Scot Whitfield

Mr. Scot Whitfield, a SkillsUSA advisor at WCHS, was recognized as the 2008 NC SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year, and was inducted as NC Career & Technical Education (NCACTE) President at the CTE Summer Conference in Greensboro.

SkillsUSA, a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives, strives to ensure that America has a skilled work force. Formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America,) the club is a national organization serving teachers as well as high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations.

Michael McKay was inducted to the North Carolina DPI Business and Information Technologies Hall of Fame at the 2008 NC Career and Technical Education Summer Conference held July 21-25, 2008 in Greensboro, NC.  Michael received this honor for his service and contributions to Career and Technical Education and their student organizations.  Congratulations Michael!
